    Built by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, the Monument to the Nation and the Monument to the Patriots are symbols of the museum, serving as a landmark in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do. Opened on August 15, 1987, coinciding with the liberation of South Korea, the current exhibition halls were extensively remodeled from 2017 to 2022. The museum's main themes are the hardships of the Japanese occupation and the independence movement that fought to regain the country. Over the past 30 years, it has served as a place for exhibitions, education, and research, establishing a proper national perspective.
