  After the Korean War armistice, the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment of the US Army was stationed here until their withdrawal in 2004. In 2007, the site was returned to the South Korean government, and since 2014, it has been designated as a security experience facility and used for training programs. Its accessibility improved recently with a cable car connection from Imjingak. While many places have been transformed into exhibition halls and youth hostels, some unused buildings offer a glimpse into modern American military architecture.
